My daughter very sweetly made this heart collage for my husband and me for Valentine’s Day. I hung it over our bed. It serves as a nice reminder for us of what’s supposed to happen there once the kids are asleep, the dogs are walked, the lunches are packed, the clothes are set out… ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Whoops!
• Heart Template (click here to download) printed onto a standard size piece of paper- this will become your stencil.
• One 12x12" piece of black construction or card-stock paper (we love canson paper).
• One 12x12" piece of thick illustration board or cardboard- this is the back of your project.
• Ripped up paper scraps (we used different shades of red and pink... but other colors look great too! You could even add newspaper, or wrapping paper for some different pattern variations).
• Exacto Blade or scissors
• Glue stick
1. Print out your heart template as big as possible.
2. Now take your exacto blade and cut along the lines of the heart and words... this takes a bit of patience so go slow - you're doing great!
3. Take your piece of black paper and trace the heart and text backwards onto the black paper with a pencil (this way, you won't see the line of your pencil when you cut out your design).
4. Repeat step 2, but on your black paper - you now have a die-cut silhouette, very professional!
5. Next, grab a handful of paper scraps, making sure you have all the colors you need.
6. Using your glue stick, fill the entire card board with scraps, mixing up the colors however your please, and making sure each piece is glued down securely.
7. As you lay down more scraps, continue covering them with more glue, sealing everything down onto the paper. Also periodically lay your silhouette over the collage to make sure you are filling up the space that you will see through your heart die-cut.
8. To finish, take your heart silhouette and cover it completely with glue (if you have a spray fix, this works great too, just use it sparingly).
9. Now carefully lay your silhouette over your collage and make sure both sides are adhering evenly to eachother.
10. You've completed your Heart Collage. Lovely enough to frame!
